What are my bonds worth?

My wife has some Series E savings bonds that were issued between 1970-1978 and given to her by her grandfather. She has 8 $25 and 1 $50 bonds. What are they really worth today? Tom's response Series E bonds issued after 1965 stop earning interest after 30 years. This means that some of the bonds you have - the ones that were issued before July 1974 - have stopped earning interest and should be redeemed. You can also redeem all of them - you don't have to hold them the full 30 years. The Savings Bonds Tracker web site provides a nifty Savings Bond Calculator you can use to see how much they're worth.
