That's a lot of grandchildren!

Reuter's report on the change to fixed rate Series EE Savings Bonds, US Treasury-EE savings bonds to bear fixed rate, begins, U.S. Series EE savings bonds, which many American children receive as gifts from their grandparents.... Reuter's reporter, like most financial professionals, just can't believe that an investment you don't have to pay a commission on can be any good, so the lead of the story has to marginalize Savings Bonds. However, this same article ends with investors bought $8 billion in savings bonds in fiscal 2004.... That's because those same grandparents, and many of us who are't there are yet, think Savings Bonds are an excellent commission-free choice for the low-risk foundation of our investment portfolios.
